Rahul Gandhi vs. ECI: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday levelled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a press conference, claiming that there has been large-scale rigging in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the Maharashtra Assembly elections. At the Congress headquarters in Delhi, he said that the BJP remains unaffected by anti-incumbency waves, which in itself is a matter of concern for the democratic system.
Rahul Gandhi said that usually in every democratic country, a feeling of opposition develops against the government in power. But BJP seems to be an exception to this. He questioned that in every democracy there is anti-government sentiment, which affects all parties. But for some reason it does not affect BJP.
Gandhi also said that in the last few elections, the actual results were completely different from the picture that came out in the exit polls and opinion polls. Giving the example of the assembly elections of Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, he said that all the figures point in one direction, but the results go in the other direction, and that too by a huge margin.
Rahul Gandhi said that the results in Maharashtra have further strengthened the Congress's suspicion that the elections there were manipulated. He said that we are convinced that the Maharashtra assembly elections were stolen in a planned manner. In support of this claim, he pointed to irregularities in the voter list.
Gandhi also questioned the role of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and said that the commission did not give the Congress a machine-readable voter list. He said that we saw that one crore new voters were added between the Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
But when we raised questions on this, the Election Commission did not give any clear answer. He also alleged that after 5:30 pm, heavy voting was suddenly recorded at some polling stations, while Congress workers were not aware of any activity there.
Rahul Gandhi, citing the example of the Mahadevpura assembly seat in Karnataka, claimed that out of 6.5 lakh votes, more than 1 lakh were fake votes. He said that our investigation revealed that this seat had a large number of duplicate voters, illegal addresses, and names added illegally.
